Shannon Rae Fincke was born in New Brighton, Pennsylvania, in 1974 to writer Gary Fincke
and educator Elizabeth Locker. She was raised, along with her two brothers, in Upstate New
York and Central Pennsylvania. While in high school Shannon was selected to attend the
Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts, and she also began taking college art courses
and exhibiting her work at galleries and in juried competitions, earning numerous awards.
She completed her undergraduate work in Studio Art at the Marchutz
School
of Art in France
and Pennsylvania's
Washington and
Jefferson College and Susquehanna University.
Shannon
was awarded a
Smithsonian Institution internship in Washington, D.C. and also interned as a
scenic painter at the Studio
Arena Theatre in Buffalo, New York before
relocating to New York
City in 1997. There, she earned her master's degree at
New York University where she was the
recipient of a Gallatin Dean’s
Scholarship and studied intensively with artist
Arnold Mesches.
Shannon's work is in private collections throughout the United States; has been featured in print,
film, and television; and
has been exhibited in solo and group shows on both coasts. She currently
lives and works in
Los Angeles with her husband, actor David Garver, and their two daughters.
