Angels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to present the mixed media paintings of artist Shannon Fincke in our Downstairs Gallery. The show opens Sunday, May 21 and runs through July 23, 2006. The public is invited to meet the artist at the opening reception on Sunday, May 21, from 2 - 4 pm. The event is free and open to the public.

Shannon Fincke is a Los Angeles based painter, originally from Pennsylvania and New York. She attended the Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Arts and completed her undergraduate work at Susquehanna University, Washington & Jefferson College, and France's Marchutz School of Drawing and Painting. She earned her master’s degree at New York University, where she studied intensively with artist Arnold Mesches. Her work is in private collections throughout the United States and has been exhibited in solo and group shows on both coasts.

About the Chairs Series

Fincke’s Chairs Series is a series of semi-abstract process based paintings. These works are composed of two primary visual elements, a chaotic painted ground and the insertion of arrangements of two-dimensional cut paper chair shapes onto that ground. The combination of visual chaos and the ordered chairs creates an air of tension and potential that pushes viewers to explore the possibilities of action contained within the elements of the paintings.

Angels Gate Cultural Center is great destination for families, with 45 artist studios, two galleries, spectacular views, and informative lectures and special appearances of artists, creating an enriching environment for all ages to explore.
